- If your child is sick and cannot attend, please make sure that you send them to school with an absence note when they are feeling better.
- If your child is late (tardy), he/she must stop at the front desk to check in before coming to the classroom.
- Assessments: include individual for placement in groups and in all subjects. District assessments- NWEA, State Assessments

- Birthdays:
- This special day will be recognized for each child (unless otherwise indicated by a parent/guardian).
- You may send in a simple, healthy, store bought snack if desired. If you would like to celebrate your child‘s birthday in school, please send in a note so that we can schedule a time at least a week in advance.
- ***Please be aware that we have food allergies in our classroom.****
- Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!
- Students may eat breakfast at school, please discuss with your child if they should/should not be going to receive breakfast.
- Book Club: Scholastic- see the link under tab Class Information.
- Behavior: see "G" under Good Behavior.
Curriculum, Class Schedule, Conferences
- Curriculum:
- Please see the William Floyd Parent Handbook for more detailed information regarding our curriculum. It is a great resource!
- Common Core State Standards, ELA Domain and Math Module lessons can be found on EngageNY.
- Class Schedule:
- (Lunch is from 10:31-11:11, Mondays= Art., Tuesday= Music, Wednesday= P.E, Thursday= Music, Friday= P.E.) Please send your child to school with sneakers on when they have P.E., or they will be unable to participate.
- Conferences:
- We will be meeting for parent conferences for the 1st and 2nd Trimesters. Please try your best to attend these conferences.
Dismissal
- Dismissal time is 2:10
- If your child is not going home on their regular bus or you plan to pick them up, please send a note letting me know of the change or call the school office at 631-874-1257
Early Dismissal Days
- Dismissal is at 11:10 Early Dismissal: These are special days reserved for parent/teacher conferences, or in the event of an emergency. See your Parent Handbook to view this policy.
- Field Trips
- We try to go on at least 2 field trips a year.
- Watch for information- we may need volunteers to come with us! In the case of a limited number of chaperones, we will follow the "pull out of a hat" policy.
- Folders
- Each student needs a communication folder. This "Take-Home" folder will go home each night with classroom work and communication.
- Have your child empty it each night and send it back to school every day.
Good Behavior
- We expect all children to follow class and school rules.

Homework
- Homework packets are sent home on Monday of each week and are due back on Friday.
- Homework is Mon.-Thurs. Students are to complete one page per night. If there is an extra page, it is not required, but strongly encouraged.
- Homework is an important extension of the school day. It allows you to see what they are learning in school and what they are capable of doing on their own. Guidance and support with this work is important to your child's development.
Invitations, Independence
- Independence
- Please assist your child in helping them learn how to tie his/her shoes if they do not yet know how.
- Invitations- If you are sending in invitations, please include everyone.

Lunch
- The lunch menu is sent home each month. If your child is buying school lunch, please send the money in an envelope/baggie with their name on it. Discuss with your child what they will be buying for lunch.
- You can prepay for your child‘s lunch, each student is assigned a pin number. You can do this by writing a check and sending it into school for the cafeteria or you can now pay on the school website. (see under tab Parents)
- If you send your child to school with lunch, please make sure you label their lunch bag/box.
- It helps to tell/remind your child which snack they can eat at lunch and which snack to save for the classroom.
Mathematics, Mystery Reader
Mathematics
- Math program includes NY Math Modules. If you have any questions about the math program or particular language, always feel free to ask.
- Fill out this form to become a Mystery Reader!
- Feel free to send me a note with a date/time that is convenient for you to bring in your favorite story (or two!).
- Prior to your visit, send in three "clues" for us to guess your identity.
News
- Please empty excess papers from the "Keep At Home" side of the folder daily.
- Folders are sent home nightly. Any communication between home and school go in this folder. Read the notices, sign and return as needed.
